What to Expect at Your Initial Acupuncture Visit

Your first visit lasts longer than follow-up visits; expect to be here for 60-75 minutes. During your initial appointment we will begin with an introduction and then discuss your intake form. We will talk through your goals for treatment, and any questions you have will be answered. Then the acupuncture needles will be placed at specific points. These points will be left in for 30-40 minutes, and then any guasha or cupping will be done if it is indicated for your condition. Most clients report it as being an extremely relaxing process.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long does a treatment take?

You should expect to be here for 60-75 min for your initial appointment. This will vary depending on what we are treating and the complexity of your case. Follow-up treatments are 45-60 minutes long and may include electro-acupuncture, acupen stim, gua sha or cupping.

How many treatments will I need to come for?

We will develop a treatment plan with you in order to get you the best results. Typically, it will involve more frequent treatments initially and then, as we make progress, move to a less frequent maintenance plan.

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very thin and flexible, only slightly thicker than a human hair. Sometimes the needles are felt when they initially go in, and there can be a heavy or numb sensation, but they are not meant to be painful or uncomfortable. Most people find acupuncture quite relaxing.
